Regional Championship Trials and Regional  Championships 2025

Please note: NZ Bridge has not yet confirmed that the Regional Championships will take place in 2025. Hence, the information below should be regarded as preliminary.

Background Information

The 2025 NZ Bridge Regional Championship Teams will be played in four categories: Intermediate, Senior, Women, and Open.

The Regional Championship Finals are scheduled to be held November 29 – December 1, venue to be announced.

The Central Districts Region will hold Trials for the 2025 Regional Championship Teams on 3-4 May 2025. Those who participate in the Trials must be willing and able to participate in/attend the Finals event, if selected.

The 2025 Trials will be held as a Pairs competition, to encourage a larger number of entries in each category. The Trials will be held online via the RealBridge platform, to enable players from all parts of the CD region to participate.

Pairs should enter online at nzbridge.co.nz. Entries close Friday 25 April 2025 at 9pm. Entry fee per player is $20. Payment should be made by 30 April to the CD Region account, 02 0644 0128181 00.

Information regarding entry fees, travel costs, and accommodation costs, and any available subsidies to selected players, is not available as of January 2025. Relevant information will be updated as it becomes available. The CD Regional Committee will support selected players to the extent possible.

Residency

Players must be a member of a Club in the Region for which they wish to play. Players who belong to Clubs in more than one Region can trial for only one Region each year and must play regularly in a Club of the Region for which they trial.

Trial Information

The Regional Committee is running the Trials as per below.

1. All categories will trial separately if there are enough entries in the category.

2. Players enter as Pairs.

3. The format will be finalised once the numbers are known. Be prepared to play for up to two days.

Selection

4. The top two pairs in each category will be selected as the team to represent the CD Region in that category.

5. If there are only two pairs registered in a category, then those pairs will be selected as the team for that category.

6. If there is only one pair registered in a category, then that pair will be selected as part of the team for that category. The additional pair will be selected by the CD Regional Committee.

7. If there are no pairs entered in a category, then selection of the team will be made by the CD Regional Committee.

8.  The CD Regional Committee will have the final decision on team composition.

Post-Trial Information

9. Pairs who are selected as part of a Regional Team are expected to play together as much as possible in the interval between the Trials and the Finals.

10. In the event of a pair withdrawing after selection, the CD Regional Committee will appoint another pair who had trialled in the respective category. If that is not possible, the CD Regional Committee will select a replacement pair. In the event of an individual player withdrawing after selection, the CD Regional Committee will consult with the remaining player and their teammates; the replacement player need not have participated in the trial event.

11. The CD Regional Committee will appoint a Chef de Mission for the Regional Championships. Payment of any travel/accommodation expenses for the Chef de Mission will be negotiated with the CD Regional Committee.
